New Year, New Appreciation for You

Jumping into the new year with joy and excitement.

As we welcome the beginning of another year, I want to invite you to recognize all the ways you have changed in the past year, the past 5 years, even the past 10 years.

As a society, we are so focused on keeping our bodies from aging, no wrinkles, no grey hair. We are focused on getting “our body back” after having kids. What if we focus on embracing our new bodies, on moving forward, not back?

I am here to welcome you to appreciate YOU in this new year. This is a new year and I hope that you are not the same as you were 10 years ago or even a 1 year ago. I hope that you have changed and gained insight and knowledge, you have experienced new adventures, you have grown from life events.

I also hope that your body has changed. I hope you have a new wrinkle that shows the wisdom you have, a new stretch mark that proves you have had a child, a new grey hair from caring about your loved ones, a new scar as proof of your baby being born, maybe even a new pound from the laughter that was had while eat a yummy meal with friends.

I personally have many more grey hairs and wrinkles from the hardships I have overcome and the wisdom I have gained from life experiences this past year. I have less defined muscles, but more daily joy from not beating myself up from not going to the gym everyday.

I have more functional strength, being able to play and lift my kids and heavy boxes up and down stairs without pain. I have more flexibility and more skin rolls as I focus my exercise routine to embrace what my body needs right now, which is more gentle exercise.

Is it important to exercise? Absolutely. It is important to eat healthy food? Absolutely. Is it necessary to do both of those things everyday? Not necessarily. It is important to enjoy life and do what is best for your body and mind.

As we start 2024, I hope that you can find appreciation, even just a tiny bit, in who you have become. I hope that your resolutions will focus on making you a better person, bringing in more joy and play into your life.
